Why I won't watch the news...

When I was growing up I knew that 6 o'clock meant local news and 6:30 meant National News ... without question. Before I was allowed a TV in my room (quite a young age) if I wanted to do something in the family room at 6, I did so as to not interrupt my Parents' watching of the news. Let me just say that I thought that interrupting them would bring down something wrathful, I just knew that they took it very seriously, and wanted to show some respect. Local news was often dull and uneventful, ("Aww did we miss the weather?") and the National News did little but show me just how messed up the world was. As I grew up I found that the 6 o'clock hour was also home to Seinfeld reruns, and syndicated Simpsons. When I did go to watch the news with my folks I would still be just as frustrated to upset by the state of the world. So....I don't watch the news any more. I don't read news papers (I will read them but I do not make a habit of it) I know that it is very ostrich-like of me, but at least I am not pissed off by 7.

I won't watch or read the news either, except for The Daily Show. Their schtick is to mercilessly mock the sensationalist propaganda that passes for news. Then you can keep up with what the liars are saying, and know that it is not only you that thinks it's stupid.
